Planning notes
What should you plan around?
Temple fair days, Ambaji crowds and the summer heat.
- Ambaji crowds: the Bhadarvi Poonam fair and Navratri bring huge crowds and road closures near Ambaji. Avoid those dates for sightseeing groups, or plan for walking.
- Bahucharaji fairs: full-moon days, especially Chaitri Poonam, are very busy at the Bahucharaji temple.
- Modhera festival: the Modhera Dance Festival in January is worth timing a tour around.
- Heat: North Gujarat is very hot from April to June; start at sunrise and keep the afternoons for the car.
- Add Rajasthan: Mount Abu is about 45 km beyond Ambaji; see the Mount Abu and Udaipur tour.
