This guide is for companies buying transport. Car owners: we run our own fleet and are not adding cars from owners at the moment (why).
Quick answer
Company transport helps hiring and retention because it lets people from towns without a direct bus take and keep a job at a plant or office, and it removes a daily cost and worry for shift staff. It only works as a benefit if it is reliable, clearly written into the offer and policy, and reviewed when employees complain.
Chapter 01
Why does transport matter so much to shift staff?
Because the plant is often far from where people live, shifts start before buses run, and the daily cost and time of getting there falls on the employee.
Many industrial sites in Gujarat sit outside the cities: the SMG plant area at Becharaji, the Vithalapur industrial area near Mandal, the Sanand estates and the Changodar belt. Staff come from Mehsana, Kadi, Viramgam, Detroj, Bavla, Ahmedabad and smaller villages. A 6 AM shift start, a 10 PM finish or a Sunday duty can be hard to reach without a vehicle.
When the company provides the ride, a new joiner does not need to buy a two-wheeler first, rely on lifts, or move closer. That is why, in interviews and in exit conversations, transport comes up next to pay and shift timings.
Chapter 02
How does company transport widen the hiring radius?
It turns towns without a direct bus into pickup towns, so the site can hire from wherever a route can reach in reasonable time.
Without transport, a site hires from the people who can get there on their own. With transport, it hires from every town on a route plan. That matters most when a new line starts, a plant expands or a skill is scarce nearby.
| Without company transport | With company transport |
|---|---|
| Hiring limited to people with their own vehicle or a direct bus | Hiring from every pickup town on the route plan |
| Early and late shifts hard to staff | Shift timings planned with the routes |
| New joiners drop out in the first weeks | Day one includes a pickup point and a known driver |
| Overtime depends on who can get home | Late drops written into the policy |
See how far employees can commute for the travel-time side of the same question.
Chapter 03
Why is reliability the real benefit?
A ride that is sometimes late or missing costs employees more than having none, because they have planned their day around it.
An employee who relies on company transport has no plan B at 5:30 AM. If the vehicle does not come, they lose a day's pay or arrive late through no fault of their own. A few such mornings and the benefit turns into a grievance. Reliability depends on the vendor's backup plan, driver discipline and communication:
- A backup vehicle when one breaks down; for a plant shift ours typically arrives within about an hour.
- The same pickup points and timings every day, changed only with notice.
- Drivers in uniform with an ID card on company routes, so employees know who they are boarding with.
- A boarding list on every trip, so HR knows who travelled.
Employees do not remember the nine days the van came on time. They remember the one day it did not, and who told them. Why we call your coordinator first
Chapter 04
How should HR present transport in offers and policy?
State who is eligible, the pickup town and point, the shifts covered and the late-drop rule, in the offer letter and the transport policy.
- Eligibility: which grades, shifts and distances are covered.
- Pickup: the town and point, and how long the vehicle waits.
- Shifts covered: including overtime, night and Sunday duties.
- Conduct and complaints: how employees raise a problem, including a confidential route to our owner for safety concerns.
Chapter 05
How do you launch transport as a benefit?
Map where staff live, get a route plan, write the policy, start with a pilot and listen to feedback in the first month.
- Map where staff live. Towns and approximate numbers per shift, from HR records or a quick survey.
- Get a route plan. Routes, pickup points, vehicles and timings from the vendor.
- Write the policy. Eligibility, pickup rules, late drops, complaints.
- Tell employees. Pickup points, timings, driver and vehicle details, the coordinator's number.
- Run a pilot. One route or shift first, then the rest.
- Listen in month one. Complaints and boarding lists, reviewed weekly at first.

Questions
Questions HR teams ask about transport as a benefit
Does company transport reduce attrition?
We publish no figures; employees and HR teams often name transport next to pay and timings. A reliable service removes one daily reason to leave.
Is it better to give a travel allowance instead?
An allowance leaves the employee to find a way; transport solves it. For early and late shifts in places without buses, transport is usually the only practical answer.
Can new joiners use transport from day one?
Yes, once HR adds them to the roster before the cut-off time.
Which towns do you pick up from?
Common pickup towns include Mehsana, Kadi, Mandal, Detroj, Viramgam, Chanasma, Sanand, Bavla and Ahmedabad, plus other nearby areas on request.
Are female drivers available?
Yes, on request.
Does the bill change if fewer employees travel?
No. Charges are per vehicle or per trip, not per head.
Can employees complain directly?
They can raise issues through your coordinator, and report a safety concern confidentially, directly to our owner.
Do drivers wear a uniform?
Yes, on company routes drivers wear a uniform and carry a driver ID card.
