About Sabarmati Ashram
Sabarmati Ashram, also called Gandhi Ashram or Harijan Ashram, was Mahatma Gandhi's home from 1917 to 1930. He launched the 1930 Dandi Salt March from here, walking 388 km to the Arabian Sea coast to protest the British salt tax. The ashram grounds include Gandhi's small cottage, Hriday Kunj, kept much as it was, along with a museum of photographs, letters and personal items.

Most visits take 1 to 2 hours: the museum, Hriday Kunj, and a walk along the riverside grounds. There is no entry fee to the ashram itself, though this can change, so check on arrival.
