About Adalaj Stepwell
Adalaj Stepwell (Adalaj ni Vav) was built in 1499 by Rani Rudabai in memory of her husband, Rana Veer Singh. The five-storey stepwell narrows from an octagonal opening at the top down to the water, with intricately carved pillars and galleries that blend Hindu and Islamic architectural styles from the period. It was historically used as a cool resting place for travellers and a community water source.

Most visits take 45 minutes to an hour, walking down through the galleries to the water level and back up. There is usually no separate entry fee, though this can change, so check on arrival.
Visiting tips
Late morning light reaches furthest into the lower galleries, which helps for photography. Adalaj pairs naturally with Akshardham Gandhinagar, a short drive further on.
